5 Days Rwanda Gorilla & Nyiragongo Hike Tour

Mountain Gorillas can best be seen in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda, or in Virunga National Park in DR Congo. This can be combined with Nyiragongo Volcano hike in DR Congo in five days , with the trip starting and ending in Kigali-Rwanda as below;

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Gisenyi.
On arrival in Kigali, if still early, you will be welcomed by your guide and take you for optional brief Kigali city tour. Visit the genocide memorial, local markets, among others. You will then drive a scenic journey to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi with en route view of Virunga mountain ranges reaching in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Paradise malahide/Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Nyiragongo hiking.
Early morning, you will cross over to Democratic republic of Congo via Goma border and drive up to Kibatsi village where you will start the hike of Nyiragongo from. The hike will take 5-6 hours depending on the strength of the hikers before reaching the top for dinner and overnight at the top shelters while viewing the lave lake.

Day 3: Descend to Volcano and transfer to Volcanoes National park.
In the morning after breakfast, you will begin descending the volcano reaching Goma early by mid day and then cross over back to Rwanda where your guide will drive you to Volcanoes National park reaching early in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura Hotel/Le bamboo Gorilla Lodge/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla tracking and cultural walk.
In the morning after an early breakfast at 6:30am, gather at the park headquarters at 7am for briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. You will then enter the forest by 8:30 to begin the search for the gorillas with the help of the park rangers. The tracking will take 2-6 hours depending of the gorillas in their natural wild. You will return from tracking in the afternoon and relax from the lodge. In the evening, go for cultural walk to Iby’wachu where you will learn more about the Banyarwanda tradition. Dinner and overnight stay(day 3).

Day 5: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali.
In the morning after breakfast, gather at the park headquarters for briefing before going for golden monkey tracking. You will enjoy this rare monkey species play in the forest in search of food. On return, you will transfer back to Kigali reaching early for the last minute shopping. You will then transfer to the airport to check in for your departure flight if on schedule.
