A new baby mountain gorilla has been born in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park in the southern sector of the park. The new born gorilla is part of the Bushaho gorrilla family, one of the habituated gorilla families in the park. The Bushaho gorilla family in which the new gorilla is born comprises of 8 individuals led by a giant silverback. The new born baby was given birth by Bunyindo and she is in good condition.
According to the Uganda Wildlife authority, a government body that manages all Ugandan national parks and its wildlife and other conservationists, the birth of the gorilla recorded on 20th August 2016 brought joy and excitement as they celebrated an increment in the number of gorilla.
Tourists coming for gorilla habituation will find joy in seeing the young one mingle and pray with the old ones as well as approaching them as they like playing around.
There has been pleasing high number of mountain gorillas in the park currently standing at 480 individuals in Bwindi National Park and Mgahinga national park out of the total gorilla population at 880 living in the virunga region according to the 2011 census conducted by Uganda Wildlife Authority and the International Gorilla Conservation Program.
Bwindi national park has 36 gorilla families, but out of 36, there are only 13 gorilla families habituated for gorilla tracking by tourisms.
Tourists are therefore reminded to plan for a gorilla safari earlier at least 3-4 months since gorilla permits tend to be less due to high demand for gorilla tracking. Get in touch with a Ugandan tour operator to have your gorilla permit booked as well as accommodation.
There is also a great chance for one to combine gorilla tracking with other activities like bird watching, volcano climbing, wildlife viewing, cultural tours, primate tracking which includes chimpanzee tracking and golden monkey tracking.
Besides the increase in mountain gorilla numbers in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, animal populations in all the Ugandan national parks have increased over the years.
The new statistics from Uganda wildlife authority revealed, thus tourists who come for gorilla tracking will also enjoy a variety of mammals during game drive safaris.
