Rwanda will be represented by Jolly Mutesi who won Miss Rwanda national beauty contest competition in February this year. For Jolly to be crowned miss world, she must score highly from a range of interviews, activities and events such as beauty with purpose, modeling, talent in multimedia and sports. It’s not all about beauty but rather the judges consider many factors such as knowledge on current affairs and culture, style, intellect and the ability to bring change to the lives of people.
Many countries from around the world will also take part in the event hence it’s a great time for Rwanda to market herself as a tourism destination as some of the Rwandan tour and travel agents will be exhibiting Rwanda’s tourism attractions to the American consumers of her tourism products and services.
The travel industry players will get a chance to network, share business ideas and for Rwanda will give latest offers to potential clients who will attend the event.
Rwanda has made a remarkable economic progress since the civil war and genocide of 1994 which many people may not be aware of thus Rwanda’s participation in miss world will show the world the country’s strong economic and political stability and progress which has for two decades compelled many travelers to plan safari and holiday trips to Rwanda perceiving it as a safe destination for tourist.

As already noted being miss world contestant is not about beauty only. Hence, Jolly Mutesi, well versed with Rwandan local tourist attractions has massively encouraged people to engage in promoting domestic tourism as an alternative to international tourists who often become choosy while selecting destinations because of world economic crisis. As an example she visited Akagera and volcanoes national park and also cycled on two wheels in Musanze district.

Volcanoes National park is popular for gorilla tracking as it is a home to the world’s remain mountain gorillas, as well as golden monkey tracking which are endemic in this park.
Jolly is very young at 19 years and many youth are inspired by her intellect and knowledge. she has used this opportunity to carry out community outreach programs aimed at advising the youth to avoid social peer related problems like drug abuse and prostitution, she has also paid visits to various women, children in schools and hospitals helping the needy by donating funds to women initiatives. She did a remarkable achievement and paid health insurance and also built many garden kitchens for genocide widows in partnership with Rotaract Club which has improved the lives of people and giving them hope for the future.

Since the launch of miss world organization in 1951 in London as a local pageant festival, it has expanded to become the world’s biggest beauty pageant. It has organized many events of the kind in more than 100 countries and proceeds from such events have been used for children and women’s charities. It has managed to beat competition from similar events such as miss universe and miss earth.
